Beloved Bluemoon by lightstep Beloved Bluemoon by lightstep
This is Bluemoon, a character of mine I roleplay at only a few live chatroom roleplays. Finally got around to getting him down on paper, the elusive creature.

Either way, very happy with how this turned out, especially since I have only worked in CorelPAINT briefly.

Media: Corel PHOTO-PAINT 12
Time Estimated: 5-6 hours

Argh! Corel Photo-Paint SUCKS. I used to use it back before I had a tablet; I had to learn everything with it and with Photoshop on my own (no manuals), and I think Adobe Photoshop is a blessing. Has Corel Photo-Paint integrated layers yet? I think the last version I used was 10, and all they had were masks. Bleh, masks.

You definitely did an amazing job despite o.o

Fantastic. It is good to please a mare, lest she prove angered and vengeful ;) Perhaps now Bluemoon will have a better chance of becoming close to Liole? He is, after all, a smecksay beast :lmao:

oh yes indeed. But Liole is a foxy unicorn, condradictory as that may be. Hopefully they can get close, they seem to be quite pleased with one another's company

Thank you, Margo. And don't be silly! There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers :D

Making him shiny: I actually start by choosing just grayscale to shade him in. This way, the colors will be crisp. I then lay down my base coat, followed by shading using a paint tool on the "Color Burn" option at 90% opacity. This tool 'burns' the color and darkens it. It's very strong, so sometimes I use even 98% opacity. Then, once the shading is done, I change the tool option over to "Color Dodge". This basically removes color. It's almost like an eraser, but softer and leaves a lot of richness. Once again, set at 90-98% opacity, I then go over where I want the highlights to be. I usually work on 3-4 different layers. Once I'm happy with everything, I merge the layers together, then go to "Color Balance" and use that to change the grays to color. From that point on, it's just a matter of tweaking it to get the color I liked. In this case, his body was tinted blue, then I selected his legs using a feathered lasso tool, and increased the contrast by 50%, darkening the blue to a near black, but leaving the shiny highlights :)
