I've been MIA

Yep, I know. Been slacking something major lately.

Well, not so much slacking as just doing other things. If you're familiar with Fur Affinity, be sure to check it out. I've been hanging out there lately. I like DeviantArt, but there are things about it that drive me insane. Such as when I'm typing this, and an ad loads, and it stops my typing and I have to keep re-clicking this damn box.

Anyway, news!

I've been volunteering at [link] lately to help with the socializing of 100 neglected horses that were seized by the ASPCA in late February. Good friends of mine are some of the organizers of the rescue, so I've been helping out. If you have any spare change, they would love you to donate. Three mares have recently foaled and are being worked with, plus the other animals are still requiring care and medical treatment. Donations have slowed down, so anything you can spare would be great! ^_^ I can vouch for the fact it really IS going directly to the horses.

With the help of Rick (friend and vice president of the organization) we're going to finalize which horse I'm going to adopt THIS MONDAY. Yep, you heard it right, folks...

LIGHTY IS GETTING A HORSEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

100%. No question. Rick has personally 'reserved' some of the horses for me until we can get a vet out to check them, and then see which one I want from the group. #53, #66 or a nice gelding that Rick picked today. #53 and #66 are both mares, and since they were exposed to stallions up until March 15 (Hard to seperate colts when the herd is spazzing, feral and scared shitless), they will be getting checked on Monday to determine if they are pregnant or not. If they are, I will then be adopting the lovely gelding. I do love #53 so so much, but realistically, I can't take care of a foal right now. This will be my first horse, and that would have so much room for error.

So that's why Lighty has been busy... Getting a facility picked out... and TOTALLY LUCKING OUT finding one!! Not only does Rick and his family board his horses there and can take me out with them (!!!!) but the lady who owns the place is also the one organizing feeding the horses on the Rescue 100 board of contacts!!! HOLY CRAP! What are the freaking odds?... Well, since it's a small town, not too major, but still! AND the place they are being kept right now is my old riding stable. Small freaking world, I tell ya.

The horses are doing great and everyone has been beyond helpful with this. I've had a ton of questions and everyone has been more than willing to answer them. All that research I've done over the years really paid off, because I knew just what kind of questions to ask to ensure everything was to code. Yay!

So tomorrow I will be heading out to give the guys a nice brushing, and check out some of the other geldings (Since Rick suggested I look at all of them personally rather than just take his word on it... Although his horses have won their fair share of trophies in high stakes circuts, so I would gladly take his word. His family's horses are drop dead gorgeous)

Yay! Much happiness!

I'm also heading out to Furry Weekend Atlanta 2009 with :iconcanismajor: and :icondreamesque:. If you're planning to go, definately drop me a line and we can chat it up at the con. Hopefully I'll have my fursuit done by then, but with funds being put towards my soon-to-be-spoiled pony, I will be happy to simply make it there! x-D Don't worry, I'll make it... I'll just need to sell tons of MLPs while I'm there to balance it out.

Hmm... What else. Work is okay. My art is doing well (although it is slightly risque` lately... Hence it being posted only on Fur Affinity x-D).
I'm trying to find new homes for four of my birds, due to conflicts within the flock and others that would be perfect companion animals. I love the idea of sharing their love with other people. Lovebirds are fantastic creatures, and I remember my first one so fondly... Three of my current birds are still young and sweet, so we're trying to find a home where they can get uber amounts of attention. They still get attention here, but they would benefit even more with loads more attention. My fourth one... She needs to find a home that is good at handling aggressive birds. She tries to kill other birds since the death of her mate, so it's time for her to find someone that can keep her in a house with no other birds.

Got an iPod... It rocks.

It was my birthday on Wednesday. 21, baby. Legal everywhere. Too bad alcohol makes me terribly ill within moments of consumption x-)

Thinking about opening up commissions to help pay for stuff. Not quite sure yet though... Heck, not sure if anyone would be interested x-D

Two male cats have been pissing off my female cat recently. She lives in the basement (it's finished, since my boyfriend and I live there) and they have been harassing her at the windows. Both are not neutered. I've visited with them outside and they are super sweet cats, well fed and not strays... However, I have posted up a notice on the mail box asking if anyone owns these cats. If they reply, they will be hearing from me that's for sure. I don't care about having male cats around... But these two are very aggressive towards my cat, and bigger than her. If I let her outside (which I had been hoping to start teaching her this summer), they would either attack her, try to rape her, kill her, or a combination. Why must my cat be punished because you assholes can't front the money to chop your cat's balls off? Even safely indoors they are freaking her out... I can only imagine letting her outside, those two chasing her, and her running out into a street to get away from them, only to be hit by a car. Or end up lost.

Fuckers. If no one responds to said poster, I will be attaching a spare breakaway collar I have to the bigger one (most aggressive), with a note detailing that either they cut off his balls, or I will take him to the SPCA and have his balls cut off, then find him a happy new home living with someone responsible.... away from my neighborhood :-)

Let me just start out by saying hello everyone, and that I hate CSS with a passion :XD: Took me waaaay too long to figure out how to position everything and get it all looking right. There was much swearing, I assure you.

But hopefully things will go more smoothly now :aww:

What would you like to see...

... in the way of changes in my gallery?

I am hoping to get a yearly sub come next week (Paycheck with vacation pay on it = Money for Lighty to spend!). So in the hopes of making some positive changes, what are some things you would like to see me change/improve/alter/add in this coming new year?

Would you like to see me host a couple of contests? I hope to do some CSS, so that'll be in my journal for sure. Should I resubmit better quality pictures in my gallery (since some were photographed)? Should I add some of my rough sketches so you can see some new stuff? Should I do more new art in general? Should I open trades/requests?

Anything you can think of, from useful to silly. Would just love some opinions :D

Training for Riding

I could start with the whole: "My life has been hectic!" speech, but I'm sure you're all familiar with that by now :XD:

Well, some exciting news on the horizon for me. A year ago or so now I stopped riding due to the fact that I felt limited with the lesson horses, or rather, the instructors who were in charge of said lessons as well. None seemed to be helping me advance or they would tell me I was doing things wrong, even when I had been instructed by others and there was a positive response from the horse. Frustrated me to no end that my instructor thought collection was ' pulling a horses chin in to make the neck crest nice ' -_- So I stopped riding until I could find a better instructor.

Well, my other 'secret passion' was to eventually learn trick riding. It's always been a dream of mine, even before I actually started riding. Of course, my mother wouldn't let me and freaked out whenever I brought it up. Apparently trick-riding is more dangerous in her eyes than eventing o.O... But she gladly let me do jumping rather than flatwork :XD: That makes me giggle. So I've been looking over various schools and instructors for a while, but stopped after finding -none- remotely close to me.

I got bored the other night and decided to look up some more trick riding schools again. What the hell, right? Actually, I was mainly looking for an equipment supplier....

DAMN if I didn't find an instructor just 2.5 hours drive from me! x.x!! And she supplies her own horses! x.x!!!!!!!!!! And she has her own tackmaker that makes and supplies her with trick saddles (avaliable for purchase)! x.x!!!!!!!!

I contacted her and asked her about her lessons and whatnot. Many of her current pupils are young (9-16), so I wasn't sure if a 21 year old could fit in there. Haha.

Well she e-mailed me back and told me there would be no problem with me joining in her classes and clinics! And that since I didn't have my own horse, she would 'assign' one of her horses to me based on my skills :D So she's given me an overview of some exercise routines to do at home and told me around where my athletic skills should be at. I basically need to be able to lift my body weight using a single limb... Whew!

So now I'm officially hitting the gym and trying to drop some weight (easier to lift myself that way!), tone and strengthen and improve my flexibility. Fortunately, my friend is an assistant football coach and my other friend is a dance instructor and both have offered to help me for no cost.

I am so Freaking excited!!! My mother tried to talk me out of it, but I'm 21 now... So no more of that! Mua ha ha!! Hopefully by this time next year I will be blissfully busting my ass on horseback to nail a manuver.

Oh, did I also mention she teaches Roman riding as well!? And when you get advanced enough, she will even let you try it over super-low crosspoles as well :D

Gaaaaah!!!! I don't even know how to express how happy I am!!! :D
