Title: Candy Ribbons Media: Mixed
This is Candy Ribbons, one of my recently completed custom My Little Pony.
She's had:
- All original paint removed
- All original hair removed
- Red gradients dry-brushed on her legs
- Red glitter snowflakes added to her upper legs, and red glitter streaks added to her lower legs
- New cutie-mark added in shape of (you guessed it) ribbon candy
- Mane and tail have been replaced using dollyhair.com's Marshmellow & Cherry Pie. Mane has been cold-crimped for that lovely ripple effect.
- Eyes were repainted with oranges and golds, with glittery red eyeshadow.
- She was then given a new choker and sealed
Really happy with how she turned out. Likely won't sell this one However, I have several more in the works that will be getting posted eventually.
I use general Acrylics for some things, but I prefer to use modeling acrylics for certain details. I use Citadel Paints (from Games Workshop). Vallejo acrylics work well too. And Testors acrylics are also great. Most of these are used in miniature work, so they have a higher pigmentation level than craft acrylics. The whole key to painting these ponies is to have a clean pony to begin with, good brushes and a good sealer to cover your paints. I use Testors Dullcote Spray for some, but most in the hobby use brush-on Modge Podge Matte (which you can find at most craft stores in the glue section).
Liiiiighty, damn you! I've been trying to tell myself that I really don't need to attempt to customize my own little MLP until I get more of my workload done, but this beautiful girl has me nearly desperate to try my hand at it! I've started cleaning out my stores of models since I came home for Christmas and there are just so many loved ones that are either due for a restoration or, in a few cases, a complete revamp.
If you don't mind, I'll probably be consulting you more about your techniques, even though I've been hoarding tutorials for this, because I really love the results I've seen from your hard labor.

Haha! Oh Dreamy, you should know by now that trying to resist My Little Ponys is futile! I tried for a few years myself
Sure thing! I'll let you know everything I've found out thusfar. Here, this site is a definately helper! [link] Lots of customizers there, some of them absolutely amazing. Plus more tutorial links.
Just to tell you now, though, if you plan on doing -any- rehairing, invest in getting a rehairing tool. It will save your BRAIN from insanity due to trying to tie hair plugs. x.x
You should tell me some of your ideas! I got tons in my head and would love to know what everyone else is coming up with
Aw thankies Scy They are ridiculously addictive, mind you. I have three staring me in the face right now that need to have their hair removed and be repainted x.x... Just got my latest shipment in, haha. Oh I'm so bad at jumping into the deep end... Why do I do this to myself... x-D
